Approaches to nurse mentoring

Video will be available shortly

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust and the University of Worcester have a successful approach to supporting nurse mentors and students in practice.

All pre-registration nursing students are assigned a mentor - a registered nurse, a midwife or other suitably qualified professional.

It's a voluntary activity to support learning when students are in practice. It's a mandatory requirement for all nursing and midwifery students.

With up to 50% of a student nurse's time spent in practice, the support given by a mentor is an important part of their training.

Hospital practice facilitators and university staff work together to implement the Nursing and Midwifery Council's standards for mentoring.

This film, made in 2010, shows Worcester Acute Hospitals Trust and the University of Worcester developing their approaches to support students and mentors to create a good learning environment
