Education commissioning for quality standards and the link to risk

Quality is high on the national agenda. As with any organisation, Birmingham Children's Hospital NHS Foundation Trust requires a workforce that is fit for purpose and fit to practice.

To achieve this, the trust needs to demonstrate that the quality of the education and training delivered during the provision of a placement is effective and responsive to the needs of the student trainees, patients, service users and carers, employers, commissioners and the professional/regulatory bodies.

One way to embed this ethos into day-to-day activity is to embrace quality within the already-existing process in many organisations - through clinical governance. This has been achieved by using the ECQ 11 generic standards, mapping them across all regulatory bodies and creating an quarterly audit tool.
