Values, behaviours and principles

< Back to Integrated Care Framework

In developing the Integrated Care Framework, colleagues from health and social care have sought to articulate the shared purpose of an organisation or system which is working in an integrated way.

This has been achieved using values and behaviours to describe how individuals should work, and defining a set of principles which describe organisation- and system-wide behaviours.

The Values and Behaviours are based on the ‘6Cs’ which are aligned to the NHS constitution and were first published within Compassion In Practice (2012).  Colleagues working in social care settings have confirmed that these behaviours are applicable in their environment too.

The Shared Principles were developed over time through conversation and collaboration. They aim to provide sufficient guidance and examples to reinforce the person-centred approach to integrated care, and to reflect an appropriate focus on the responsibilities of the individual practitioner as well as those of system leaders.
