NHS Health Check

The NHS Health Check, updated and improved for 2014 with an introduction by national lead Jamie Waterall, is offered to adults aged between 40 and 74 to help people assess their risk of developing heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes or kidney disease.

These diseases can often be prevented through lifestyle changes, and NHS staff who deliver the Health Check are able to give personalised advice on how to reduce the risks and be more proactive in ensuring patients’ long-term health.

The Health Check e-learning course is aimed at supporting all staff involved in administering the NHS Health Check, including nurses, pharmacists and healthcare assistants.

There is no enrolment key required for this course, which is open to all staff. To access the course click on the green arrow below. If this is the first time you have used the e-Learning for Healthcare (e-LfH) platform you will need to create an account and you will be taken to a page to guide you through this process.

The resource includes 12 videos covering various aspects of the NHS Health Check, such as the key skills staff need in order to get a full medical, personal and family history from patients or clients, as well as key areas in which intervention may help reduce the likelihood of developing certain health issues.

There is an assessment which should be completed after viewing the videos which requires a 100% pass mark for the successful completion of the course.
