Development of a paediatric surgical virtual learning case study

A virtual learning case study is part of Birmingham City University's acute hospitalisation module for second-year child branch nursing students.

There are many times in acute paediatrics when children's nurses are required to assess, manage, prepare and evaluate children who require a variety of surgical procedures.

This virtual surgical case provides the opportunity for student nurses to interact with an eight-year-old girl, Semina Akhtar, admitted with acute appendicitis, in a safe environment, which can either be in the academic or home setting.

This downloadable resource - development of a paediatric surgical virtual learning case study -summarises the tool and provides the contact details for the lead.
