Obstetric emergency videos for student midwives

Student midwives need to see obstetric emergencies to be able to fully understand them and learn the skills to manage them.

However, exposure to such emergencies in the clinical area may be limited as they are not everyday occurrences.

To this end, Birmingham City University produced three videos in 2010 for students during their second year of the BSc (Hons) midwifery degree. These focused on the obstetric emergencies of cord prolapse, shoulder dystocia and postpartum haemorrhage.

This downloadable resource - obstetric emergency videos for student midwives - summarises these videos and provides the contact details of the lead.
